Explore & Discover Al Ula
Heritage Oasis Trail
The Heritage Oasis Trail is where culture and history meet the great outdoors and beautiful scenery. This extended and stretched out hiking trail is covered by native palm trees and surrounded by picturesque mountains and rocks. Along the way, you will run into a variety of shops that sell locally made foods, handcrafted items, and natural products.
Hegra (Mada’en Saleh)
Hegra (locally known as Mada’en Saleh) is Saudi Arabia’s first-ever UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it is rich with tombs, artistic drawings, and imagery that date back to the 1st century AD. Hegra was the second largest city of the ancient Nabatean Kingdom. Throughout the centuries, it’s been occupied by the army of Trajan, the famous Roman Emperor, and visited by iconic Arabian and Ottoman explorers, including Ibn Battuta.
Maraya Concert Hall
At a size of 105,000 square feet, the Maraya Concert Hall entered the Guinness Book of World Records as “largest mirrored building in the world”. Located within the Mada’en Saleh area, the size of this cubic structure isn’t the only remarkable thing about it. Maraya’s interior design allows it to offer concert goers and conference attendees with superior sound quality, while its mirrored exteriors reflect the majestic beauty of the desert and ancient sites that surround it from every angle.
Jabal al Ikmah
Dubbed as “a gateway to ancient life” by UNESCO, the Jabal al Ikmah mountain consists of nearly 300 inscriptions from the Kingdoms of Dadanite and Lihyanite that go all the way back to 500 BC. Remarkably, these inscriptions also highlight the important role that women played in the Dandanite Kingdom. You certainly don’t want to miss the chance to witness what UNESCO called “the most extensive concentration of well-preserved Dadanitic and Lihyanite inscriptions found anywhere in the world.”
The Old Town
While the Old Town of al Ula has been uninhabited since the 1980s, the nearly 800-year-old legacy of this unique, maze-like residential area certainly lives on. The Old Town is rich with immemorial buildings, ancient monuments, and both historical and contemporary marketplaces. For an even more unforgettable experience, you can take in the spectacular view of the entire Old Town from the Moussa Ben Noussair Castle.
Elephant Rock (Jabal al Feel)
This nearly 120-feet high natural structure allows you to enjoy a pristine and unfiltered view of the desert and the remarkable rock formations that surround it, especially during sundown and when the sky is covered with stars at night. To enhance your experience, Elephant Rock is surrounded by snug and cozy seating areas and a restaurant that offers food options from international cuisines.
