Activities & Adventures in al Hofuf

Sarat al Hubail Lake

At the Sarat al Hubail Lake, you will find yourself at the center of where two entirely different ecosystems collide; the dry and arid desert and the wet and muddy lakes and marshlands of the al Ahsa agricultural oasis. This place is ideal for observing various species of birds (including flamingos) and unique natural flora, and it's a great spot for camping, picnics, and taking breathtaking pictures.

Al Asfar Lake (Yellow Lake)

Also referred to Sabkhat Umm Hishah, this lake got its name from the color of its water, which flows from more than 20,000 nearby farms into a lowly elevated area that’s covered with golden sands. Yellow Lake is home to many plant species. During the winter, it acts as a breeding area for various types of migrating birds. Above all, the sands of the surrounding marshlands make this a perfect spot for camping, exploring by foot, birdwatching, and enjoying a truly picturesque view.

Al Ahsa Oasis

As one of the biggest oases on the planet, al Ahsa Oasis is an official UNESCO World Heritage Site. In addition to the captivating Mount Four, al Nassla Rock, and Mount Abu Hsas al Toithir, al Ahsa Oasis is also home to the al Ahsa National Park, Land of Civilizations (an open-air museum), Jabal al Qarah (a captivating cave complex), Dougha Pottery Factory (which was set up in the middle of a mountain cavern during the mid-1800s), and the almost 15-centuries-old Jawatha Mosque (the first of its kind in eastern Arabia).

Al Qarah Mountain (Jabal al Qarah)

The captivating Jabal al Qarah mountain rises 250 feet from the ground and has an elevation of nearly 700 feet above the sea level. You may get to the top of this mountain through a walkable hiking path or through embarking on a rock climbing adventure. Jabal al Qarah is also ideal for those who want to enjoy a breathtaking view of the entire al Ahsa Oasis.

Land of Civilizations

Located within the Jabal al Qarah are a variety of caves that are almost 7,000 years old. Every cave has a distinct appearance, and each of them has been used for its own, unique purposes throughout the centuries, including weddings and holiday festivities. Today, the area is known as ‘The Land of Civilizations’.
