Activities & Adventures in Abha

Rijal Alma’a Heritage Village

This UNESCO World Heritage Site has a nearly 1,000-year-old history. The village of Rijal Alma’a, which translates to “the brightest men'' in Arabic, was a regional trade hub due to its location being between Mecca and Yemen. Its architecture and art are incredibly unique, and the latter is primarily made by local women. The Rijal Alma’a museum showcases the region’s heritage, traditional outfits, handmade tools, and more.

The Hanging Village of al Habala

Al Habala is an old village with a history that goes back to a few hundred years ago. When it was originally founded, inhabitants needed ropes to reach al Habala because of its elevated location within the mountains. Today’s visitors can get to the village through a cable car. The area offers a gorgeous view of the mountains, valley, and waterfall, and visitors may enjoy recreational activities at al Habala Park and choose between a variety of dining options.

Bani Mazin

This area is named after Bani Mazin, the tribe that used to occupy it and the surrounding mountains since pre-Islamic times. Contemporarily, the village boasts dozens of historic homes and forts, alongside a mosque that’s over 1,400 years old. Above all, tourists can take in an astonishing view of the city of Abha, waterfalls, al Sadah Mountain, and the mountainside farming terraces.

Shadda Palace

Shadda Palace is a perfect place to discover southwestern Saudi Arabia’s history and heritage. The four-floor museum displays handmade tools and household items, local antiques, and furniture. The building’s exterior and interior designs have very traditional layouts. Shadda Palace was built in 1927 and used to house the governor of the Aseer region.

Events & Entertainment in Abha

Abha Festival

The Abha Festival is where authenticity, culture, and entertainment meet. Alongside shows that combine local and regional folklore with modern music, the Festival entails a carnival, a food court with a variety of local and international cuisines, a retail zone with plenty of traditional Aseeri products and clothing, live cooking classes, music workshops, and more.

Aseer Summer Season

This annual season brings many vibrant and exciting festivities to Abha. Among them are a sizable art show that focuses on the region’s history, live music, fashion shows, and art and music group seminars. Tourists can buy souvenirs, take pictures in traditional cultural outfits, have their names written in Arabic, and enjoy many types of Aseeri food, strawberries, and honey.
